An Arizona grand jury has charged multiple key associates of former President Donald Trump, including former Trump lawyer and ex-New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Arizona Republican Chair Kelli Ward, and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, for their involvement in contesting the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. In addition to Ward, Meadows, and Giuliani, former Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis and former Trump campaign adviser Boris Epshteyn, along with various members of the Arizona Republican Party, were also indicted, as reported by the Washington Post.

Meadows, Giuliani, Ellis, and Epshteyn are among those accused of trying to assist Trump in securing Arizona’s electoral votes in the 2020 presidential election, which took place over three years ago. Individuals like Ward and Arizona state Senators Jake Hoffman (R) and Anthony Kern (R) were similarly charged long after they had signed documents on December 14, 2020, confirming Trump’s victory in the election.

The indictment of numerous Trump allies and Arizona Republican Party members coincides with a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult survey conducted between April 8 and 15, which revealed that President Joe Biden is trailing Trump by six or more points in crucial swing states like Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina. In Arizona specifically, Trump is leading by seven points, garnering 49 percent of support from voters who expressed their intention to vote for him, while Biden received 42 percent.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes made the following announcement:

“I will not allow American democracy to be undermined. It’s too important. Investigators and attorneys assigned to this case took the necessary time to throughly piece together the details of the events that began nearly four years ago. They followed the facts where they led and I’m very proud of the work they’ve done to date. We are here because justice demands an answer to the efforts that the defendants and other unindicted co-conspirators allegedly took to undermine the will of Arizona’s voters during the 2020 presidential election. Arizona’s election was free and fair. The people of Arizona elected President Biden.”

The indictment encompasses the eleven Arizona Republicans who fulfilled the role of alternate electors, as reported by the Arizona Mirror. Among the Trump allies who have allegedly been indicted are Mark Meadows, Jenna Ellis, Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Christina Bobb, a former attorney for Trump, Boris Epshteyn, and Mike Roman, a former aide to the Trump campaign, as stated by the Washington Post.
