Vice President Kamala Harris has not conducted a formal solo press conference in the nearly 45 days following President Joe Biden’s announcement regarding his decision not to pursue reelection, leading to criticism from some who are characterizing her actions as a strategy to avoid the press.
This week, as she was heading to a campaign event in Detroit, Michigan, Harris was observed leaving a government vehicle while wearing an earpiece connected to her cellphone, suggesting she may have been listening to something. She offered a brief wave to reporters before boarding Air Force Two.

The situation led some observers to conjecture that Harris was merely employing an alternative “strategy” to evade inquiries from the press.
Wow. She’s pretending to be on the phone. 📞 . It’s an avoidance tactic. @mirandadevine
