House Republican leaders have announced the initiation of an investigation into Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis following the discovery of a letter she had sent to a committee controlled by Democrats, seeking assistance with her case involving former President Donald Trump. Just the News reported on Monday that the investigation was launched after GOP investigators found a letter from Willis in 2021, where she had requested House Democrats on the Nancy Pelosi-picked January 6th Committee to provide her with evidence that would aid in the prosecution of Trump.

The House Administration Oversight Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., expressed concerns that the investigation led by Democrats Benny Thompson and Liz Cheney may have shared evidence, such as video depositions, with Willis’s office without providing the same to the Republicans who took control of the House chamber in 2023, as mentioned in the outlet’s report.

The panel has accused Willis of “collusion” with the committee in one section of their report.

“During its initial review of records archived by the Select Committee, the Subcommittee discovered a letter from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to the Select Committee dated December 17, 2021,” the report said, according to Just the News.

“In this letter, Willis requested access to any Select Committee records relevant to her investigation into President Trump’s actions to challenge the 2020 presidential election, including ‘recordings and transcripts of witness interviews and depositions, electronic and print records of communications, and records of travel.’”

The Republican Party report cited articles from media organizations like the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Politico, in which insiders revealed that the January 6 committee, led by Democrats, had provided evidence to Willis.

“Although no additional communications between the Select Committee and the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office were archived by the Select Committee, the prospect of the Select Committee sharing video recordings of witness interviews with Willis but not this Subcommittee remains particularly concerning,” the report added.

“The Subcommittee has opened an investigation into the extent of the coordination between Willis and the Select Committee and is committed to uncovering answers to these questions,” the report said.

The news about the letter has emerged at a time when various elements of the Democrat-led Jan. 6 Committee’s accounts concerning Trump have been revealed as falsehoods. Trump has been celebrating after a Secret Service driver of the presidential limousine contradicted a narrative related to an alleged incident during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol Building.

Trump claimed vindication on Monday after Congress released new evidence that discredited two sensational claims put forth by Democrats during the Jan. 6 investigation. These claims included the accusation that he tried to take control of his Secret Service vehicle that day to head to the Capitol, and the assertion that he never suggested deploying National Guard troops for additional security before the tragic event.

“These were made-up, fabricated stories,” Trump told Just the News.

Loudermilk published transcripts and additional evidence in an interim report, which determined that the House Select Committee on Jan. 6, led by Democrats, concealed evidence from the public that contradicted its final findings.
