Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) has called for the removal of the Statue of Liberty as a form of protest against the House GOP’s H.R.2, also known as the Secure the Border Act. Frost, a radical Democrat congressman, believes that this action will send a strong message to Republicans regarding their “bigoted” immigration law. During a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing on immigration, Frost demanded that Republicans pass a bill to remove the iconic monument.
The bill in question aims to restrict the asylum process for individuals crossing the border and mandates the continuation of border wall construction. Despite being one of many Democrats who criticized the bill, Frost faced widespread ridicule on social media after proposing the removal of the Statue of Liberty for Republicans to endorse as well.
“My colleagues from the other side of the aisle, let’s be honest with immigrants who deserve better than what you’re offering them,” Frost said, holding up the draft.
“Don’t welcome immigrants if you plan to reject them.
“If you keep pushing your bigoted H.R. 2 bill, then also pass this bill.
“I’ve taken the liberty of drafting it for you.
“It removes the Statue of Liberty, our largest symbol that tells people to come here.”
“This is who you are, removing the fabric of America,” he continued.
“So, I want to know which Republican, who supports and voted for H.R.2, will introduce this bill.
“If you’re gonna support H.R.2 and these bigoted measures, the least you can do is not be a d–n liar.”
