Comedian Jon Stewart is currently facing widespread online ridicule following the release of a new report that reveals he significantly overestimated the value of his New York City home during its sale. This revelation comes shortly after Stewart dedicated an entire episode of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to mocking former President Donald Trump’s real estate valuation case in New York.

During the show, which aired on Monday, Jon Stewart accused Trump of “lying” about the value of his properties, asserting that Trump’s actions had negative consequences for the city of New York. However, documents obtained by the New York Post now suggest that Stewart himself had previously overvalued his own New York residence by a staggering $16 million. According to these documents, in 2014, the comedian purportedly sold his 6,280-square-foot Tribeca duplex to financier Parag Pande for $17.5 million. However, assessor records from 2013-2014, obtained by The Post, indicate that the property’s estimated market value was only $1.882 million. Furthermore, the official assessor valuation for property tax purposes stood at $847,174.

Interestingly, the records also reveal that Stewart paid property taxes based on this assessor valuation, which is precisely what he had accused Trump of doing. Unsurprisingly, this report has sparked a wave of online mockery directed towards Stewart.
