(The Post Millennial) – Former ambassador to South Africa, Patrick Gaspard, is leaving his position as president of George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF).
The move has left some to speculate that Gaspard will join the Biden administration as Labor Secretary. Gaspard served as ambassador to South Africa under Barrack Obama, and before that as Obama’s political director in the White House, Axios reports.
As president of the OSF, Gaspard has dominion over a wide spread of left wing organizations with a collective annual budget of $1.2 billion, according to Axios.
“I write to share with you that I will leave Open Society at the end of the year,” Gaspard wrote to colleagues.
“After four profound years of service to this extraordinary institution, and at a critical juncture for the democracy that is my home, I am compelled to charge once more unto the breech in a new political moment,” he continued.
George Soros spoke highly of Gaspard, saying that he was a “champion of all rights,” according to a press release on the OSF website.
“From his work as a union organizer to his political leadership during the Obama administration to his role as U.S. ambassador to South Africa, Patrick has been a champion of all rights: whether for workers, for women, or for underserved groups,” said Soros .
“His dedication to those challenging power is precisely why I invited Patrick to join Open Society. I have great admiration for the way he led the Foundations in a world beset by illiberalism, and I applaud him,” he continued.
British House of Lords member Mark Malloch-Brown is set to replace Gaspard as OSF president, according to the OSF press release.
