(The Post Millennial) – The numbers that came in on Friday showed the lowest average number of daily COVID cases in months in the US. Also, Sunday night marks the first time in months that there have been under 1,000 deaths from the contagion in one day.
The seven-day average for new cases of the novel coronavirus as of Friday was 99,052, which is way down from a previous high of a month ago in January, when the country was averaging more than 250,000 new cases a day.
According to NBC News, all US states and territories saw a marked decline in new cases this week, ranging from 10 to 50 percent, depending on the area. California saw a surprising 48 percent decline in new cases over the past two weeks.
Forty states saw a decline of 25 percent or more.
The number of daily deaths also appears to be finally falling, although the data in that case isn’t conclusive, since single-day statistics can often be misleading; they can tend to vary greatly from day to day.
Experts, however, are warning that, while the numbers are cause for optimism, we shouldn’t let our guard down, and infection rates remain high.
