(The Post Millennial) – President Donald Trump will sign an executive order ensuring Americans have access to vaccination before foreign nations, Fox News reported Monday.
The order, which is expected to be signed on Tuesday, falls in line with the president’s “America First approach,” a Senior administration official told the outlet.
“The priority is to make sure we distribute these vaccines to Americans before we start shipping them around the world to get international access,” the official said. As for when other countries could see the vaccine, assistance will likely arrive in the “late spring, early summer,” after “vaccinating those who have a desire to be vaccinated.”
The unnamed official told Fox that the order is “clear and is directing that we prioritize access to the American people before working with partners and allies to provide access to the vaccine.”
The order will also clarify “who will be working with the international aspect of this, the framework, guides and tools, for when we have an excess supply to meet those demands.”
Pfizer-BioNTech submitted their application for emergency authorization of their vaccine three weeks ago. Authorization for the vaccine could come as early as this Friday.
“We will very soon have highly effective COVID-19 vaccines to the American people,” another source told Fox.
Health care workers, the elderly, and vulnerable people in long-term care homes and retirement homes will be prioritized upon the vaccine’s roll out.
