President Joe Biden seemed to be showing support for his vice president after a challenging week following the debate, where there were suggestions for him to resign and let Kamala Harris assume the role.

At an Independence Day event held at the White House, Biden held Harris’ hand on the Truman Balcony and raised it, as reported by various sources. This gesture of solidarity comes at a time when Biden is facing poor polling numbers after his lackluster performance against Trump in the first debate of the scheduled two.

The latest New York Times/Siena College poll, released on Wednesday, indicates that Trump is ahead of Biden by a margin of 49 percent to 43 percent among registered voters who are likely to participate in the upcoming November 5 election. This marks Trump’s largest lead in a Times/Siena poll since 2015, when he was campaigning for the 2016 presidential election. Trump’s lead expands to nine points when considering all registered voters. Furthermore, a Wall Street Journal poll shows that Trump, aged 78, is leading Biden by six points. Despite increasing pressure from his party to withdraw, Biden stated in front of the White House to reporters that he plans to stay in the November race.

“I’m not going anywhere,” he said this week.

Biden faced difficulty in providing coherent responses and elucidating his plans during the debate, sometimes coming across as indecisive. This prompted Democratic lawmakers, donors, and experts to start advocating for the president to withdraw from the race prior to the convention.

At the White House gathering on Thursday, Biden praised WW2 veterans as courageous individuals who fought for liberty and democracy on the White House grounds. The speech was intended to convince the president’s supporters that he remains capable of taking on Trump. As he wrapped up his address, Biden addressed questions from journalists about his political future, affirming that he had no intention of backing out of the 2024 election.

“You got me, man. I’m not going anywhere. Alright,” Biden told reporters. You know, I used to think, when I was a Senator, there was always congestion on the highways. There’s no congestion anymore! We go out on the highway and there’s no congestion!”

He continued, “The way they get me to stop talking, they’ll say, ‘we just shut down all the roads, Mr. President. You’re gonna lose all the votes if you don’t get in,’ but anyway.”

Mediaite reported: “According to multiple reports, Biden spoke with Democratic governors at a private meeting at the White House on Wednesday evening, where he attempted to reassure them about his candidacy. The president told the elected officials that he needed to get more sleep and that his staff have been instructed to avoid scheduling events for him after 8 p.m.”
