Former President Donald Trump attracted a substantial gathering to his campaign rally in Las Vegas on Sunday, despite scorching temperatures exceeding 100 degrees and heat advisory warnings issued by the National Weather Service.
Addressing the crowd at an open-air venue located approximately six miles away from the Las Vegas Strip, Trump labeled Nevada, a crucial battleground state, as a “dumping ground” for undocumented immigrants. He vehemently criticized President Joe Biden for his border policies, asserting that they were causing a “nightmare” and inflicting severe harm on Black and Hispanic Americans, as reported by Politico.
“The people of Nevada have had a front-row seat to Joe Biden’s evil and criminal obliteration of our southern border,” Trump told the crowd. “It was criminal what he’s done.”
Just a few days after Biden’s announcement of his executive order to close the U.S.-Mexico border if daily crossings surpass 2,500 individuals, the speech took place. Trump expressed his disapproval of the order, referring to it as a “minor plan” and condemning it for allegedly aiding invasion, child trafficking, women trafficking, human trafficking, drug dealers, and illegal immigration. Additionally, he emphasized cases of violent crimes that were supposedly committed by unauthorized individuals residing in the U.S.
“It’s weak, it’s ineffective, it’s bullshit what he signed,” Trump said before his supporters erupted into a chant of “Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.”
On the same day he delivered these comments, the Trump campaign revamped its approach to engaging with the Latino community by transitioning from “Latinos for Trump” to “Latino Americans for Trump.” This alteration is particularly significant in a state where Latinos hold a pivotal and influential position as voters, and as Republicans persist in making progress among Latino voters.
In the event of being re-elected, Trump has pledged to carry out large-scale deportations, terminate birthright citizenship, and reinstate his previous ban on entry to the United States from specific countries. Furthermore, in February, he actively encouraged Republicans in Congress to reject a bipartisan immigration agreement supported by Biden, arguing that it would not effectively address border control.

On Sunday, Trump made a reference to the first family as the “Biden crime family” and highlighted the fact that Biden retained classified documents after his vice presidency, despite the absence of any charges recommended by a special counsel. In the 2020 election, Biden secured victory in Nevada with a margin of approximately 2.5 points. It is worth noting that the last Republican president to win the state was George W. Bush two decades ago. However, according to most polls, Trump is currently leading Biden in Nevada by a margin of 3-5 points.
