Video footage shared on Twitter captured the moment when Eric Adams, the Mayor of New York City, who belongs to the Democratic party, was approached by another passenger during a flight back to the city from Miami. The clip shows Adams seated in a middle-row seat, engrossed in his phone, when the individual approaches him.

“Are you Eric Adams?” the passenger asks, to which Adams nods in response. “Yeah, fuck you! You support the genocide in Palestine. There are homeless people all over New York, [but] you’re always partying. You don’t actually care about the citizens of New York.”

The man seated beside Adams in the aisle seat seems to be trying to shield the passenger who is shouting at the Democratic mayor. Nevertheless, the passenger persists in yelling at Adams, accusing him of only caring about “funding the police,” until passengers behind her advise her that she is causing a delay in the line.

“Why are you even in Miami?” the passenger says in the video. “You know there are people being arrested there, people are homeless in New York, people can not afford food, you keep cutting the education budget so you can fund the police. That’s all you care about — funding the police! Everything is underfunded because of you.”

Over the past week, tensions in the city have escalated as pro-Palestine protesters gathered at Columbia University on April 17. The protests extended into the weekend, prompting activists to assemble on various school campuses throughout the U.S., including Yale and UC Berkley. On Monday evening, clashes between New York Police Department officials and NYU protesters resulted in hundreds of arrests.
